About Southcare

Southcare’s story began on April 6, 1982 when we first started using our caring hands. We have been using them ever since and, in doing so, have helped thousands of people in the community we all call home.

In humble surroundings in Manning, 20 determined volunteers knitted baby blankets and gave them to local mothers in need. It was care… when they needed it most. Today, that vision still holds true. Now 38 volunteers and 105 staff members continue using their caring hands providing essential services helping those who need it most.

In 2020/2021, more than 63,400 hours of home care was given to 1,100 customers. Some 1,440 people regained their independence with the help of the Community Services team and $285,000 of social impact was delivered by our volunteers. In 40 years of celebrating what we love, what we are really celebrating is you.

While we may look a little different today, the ethos of community is still at our core. Southcare exists for people. It was built by people with a common purpose and succeeds today because of its people and the same shared purpose. We call them ‘Southcarers’ – you might call them support workers, a friendly face, a coffee mate, a shopping buddy, a home wizard or a helping hand. We acknowledge all of the caring hands of the many people who have helped build the foundations of what we do today and, of course, our customers who continue to inspire us everyday.
