Taj is an Australian owned family brand, created by entrepreneur & visionary, the late Mr. Sid Varma, during the mid-1970’s. Sid, along with his wife, migrated to Australia at 75 years of age to lead a peaceful life in retirement.
The boredom from not being active, his years of experience in the rice world & international trade, and his ‘love for basmati’, drove Sid to introduce Australia’s first branded basmati rice – ‘Taj’ & ‘White Tiger’.
Taj has since grown to become one of the leading basmati brands amongst the extremely discerning rice eating communities in Australia. Consistent high quality, attractive price points, very high customer satisfaction and brand loyalty have been the main guiding principles of growth.
Sid retired in July 2008, passing on the reins to his grandsons – Gautam and Arjun Varma.
